MARCAL MARZAL (MARÇAL), FRANCESCO. - Lullist, Franciscan of the province of Majorca, of which he was also superior, b. at Mahon (Minorca) in 1591,
d. on 27 May 1688 in the Convent of S. Francesco in Majorca. He is one of the principal representatives and propagators of the Lullian school (v. LOCULO, RAYMUNDO).
He was professor of the Ars lulliana, first in the royal convent of Majorca, where a special chair existed, and then in the convent of Aracoeli in Rome. He oversaw the publication of Raimondo Lullo’s Ars generalis et ultima (Palma de Mallorca 1645), and wrote several works, among which the following are known: De arte inveniendi medium, certamen dialecticum (Palma 1666); Resolutio quaestionum beati Raymundi Lulli in IV libros Sententiarum (ibid. 1673); moreover, Ars brevis Raymundi Lulli (Majorca 1669), to which is appended the Nova et naturalis discurrendi methodus.
