MEMORIE DOMENICANE. - It is the oldest Dominican journal in Italy. Founded in 1884 in Ferrara, on the initiative of Fr. Tommaso Granello, later archbishop and commissioner of the Holy Office, under the title, which indicated its program, of Il Rosario-M. d. From 1895 to 1930 its director was Fr. C. Becchi, and from 1931 to 1948 Fr. A. Zucchi. Remaining faithful to its program, it fostered the development of devotion to the Rosary and the historical-literary-artistic knowledge of the Dominicans, especially in Italy.

Among its most illustrious contributors were Cardinals Zigliara, Mauri, Bausa, Pierotti; numerous bishops; Frs. Berthier, Mandonnet, Cordovani, Walz, Käppeli, Meersseman. In 1926 it split into two journals: Il Rosario, which began a new life of its own, and the M. d., which continue to illustrate the history, art, and literature of the Order in Italy, often supplementing articles with plates outside the text. The journal, after the interruption of the years 1944-45 due to the war, is today a quarterly.
