MEMORIE DOMENICANE. - It is the oldest Dominican periodical in Italy. Founded in 1884 at Ferrara, on the initiative of Fr Tommaso Granello, later archbishop and commissary of the S. Uffizio, under the title—which indicated its programme—of Il Rosario-M. d. From 1895 to 1930 its editor was Fr C. Becchi, and from 1931 to 1948 Fr A. Zucchi. Faithful to its programme, it promoted the development of devotion to the Rosary and historical, literary, and artistic knowledge of the Dominicans, especially in Italy.
Among its most distinguished contributors were Cardinals Zigliara, Mauri, Bausa, Pierotti; numerous bishops; and Fathers Berthier, Mandonnet, Cordovani, Walz, Käppeli, Meersseman. In 1926 it divided into two periodicals: Il Rosario, which began a new independent life, and the M. d., which continue to illustrate the history, art, and literature of the Order in Italy, often accompanying articles with plates outside the text. After the interruption of the years 1944–45, caused by the war, the periodical is now quarterly.
