NOUVELLE REVUE THÉOLOGIQUE. - Belgian monthly journal of theology, founded in 1869 and now published under the direction of some professors of theology of the Society of Jesus, at Louvain.
Its foundation is owed to Canon J. J. Loiseaux (later a Capuchin, under the name of Father Piat de Mons), who had already attempted to give the Belgian clergy a journal of its own with the Mélanges théologiques (6 vols., 1847-52); once this ceased, he continued the realization of his idea with the Revue théologique (8 vols., 1856-63), which, after six years, resumed publication in 1869 under the title of N. R. T. Directed until 1895 by Father Piat, it passed from 1896 to 1906 under the direction of the Redemptorists, then, from 1907 to 1920, under the direction of Father Besson and his other Jesuit colleagues, professors at the Catholic Institute of Toulouse. Since 1921 it has been directed by the Jesuits, professors at Louvain. Interrupted during the First and Second World Wars, the N. R. T. reached with 1951 its 83rd year and its LXXIII vol. The individual issues, besides the articles, contain an extensive bibliographical report, and have a quite special care for the acts of the Holy See, which they almost always accompany with suitable commentaries.
