NOUVELLE REVUE THÉOLOGIQUE. - Belgian monthly theological journal founded in 1869 and now published under the direction of several professors of theology of the Society of Jesus at Louvain.
Its foundation is due to Canon J. J. Loiseaux (later a Capuchin under the name of Fr. Piat de Mons), who had already attempted to provide Belgian clergy with their own journal through the Mélanges théologiques (6 vols., 1847-52); upon its cessation, he continued to implement his idea with the Revue théologique (8 vols., 1856-63), which, after six years, reappeared in 1869 under the title of N. R. T. Directed until 1895 by Fr. Piat, it passed from 1896 to 1906 under the direction of the Redemptorists, then from 1907 to 1920 under the direction of Fr. Besson and his fellow Jesuit colleagues, professors at the Catholic Institute of Toulouse. Since 1921 it has been directed by Jesuits, professors at Louvain. Interrupted during the First and Second World Wars, the N. R. T. reached its 83rd year and 73rd volume in 1951. The individual issues, besides articles, contain an ample

Admitted to the Dominican Order at the age of 16, he became professor of canon law at the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Manila, and later at that of St. Mary Above Minerva. From 1910 to 1914 he returned to Manila as rector of that university. Called back to Rome again, he taught at the Angelicum until 1932. During this period he played an important part in the drafting of the Code of Canon Law and was Consultor to the Sacred Congregations of Seminaries and Universities and of the Propagation of the Faith. Retiring to Spain, he became involved in the civil war; taken prisoner by the Reds in 1936, he was subsequently released, but ended his life in a sanatorium as a result of an illness contracted in captivity.
