Nullis te genitor blanditiis trahit

Italian original Cite

"NULLIS TE GENITOR BLANDITIIS TRAHIT". - Hymn of praise for the feast of St. Hermenegild, composed by Urban VIII, when in 1636 he extended to the universal Church the feast of this martyr of Spain.

It extols the courage and heroism of the Saint who does not yield to his father's seductions, nor is dismayed before the executioner, but prefers heavenly joys to the pleasures of the world. The poet took the particulars of the life from ch. 31 of book III of the Dialogues of St. Gregory the Great. Most refined art and exquisite taste in the Latin language distinguish this hymn, which is full of admiration for the heroic deeds of the young prince.
