« NULLIS TE GENITOR BLANDITIIS TRAHIT ». — Hymn of praise at the feast of St. Ermenegildo, composed by Urban VIII when, in 1636, he extended the feast of this martyr of Spain to the universal Church.
It extols the courage and heroism of the Saint, who does not yield to his father’s seductions, nor is dismayed before the executioner, but prefers heavenly joys to the pleasures of the world. The poet took the details of the life from chapter 31 of book III of the Dialoghi of St. Gregorio Magno. The finest artistry and exquisite taste in the Latin language distinguish this hymn, which is filled with admiration for the heroic deeds of the young prince.
