ONORATO of LÉRINS. – Monk, born toward the end of the 4th century, died at Arles in 429. On his return from a journey to the East, undertaken with his brother Venanzio and his spiritual father Caprasio (d. in 430), he founded around 410 the celebrated monastery of Lérins on the model of the Eastern monasteries (cf. Annales Ord. S. Benedicti, I, p. 14). He later became bishop of Arles (426). None of his writings has been preserved. His successor in the see of Arles, St. Ilario, wrote a biography of him full of devotion and enthusiasm.
