HONORATUS OF LÉRINS. - Monk, b. toward the end of the 4th century, d. at Arles in 429. Returning from a journey to the East, undertaken with his brother Venantius and his spiritual father Caprasius (d. in 430), he founded around 410 the famous monastery of Lérins on the model of the Eastern monasteries (cf. Annales Ord. S. Benedicti, I, p. 14). He was afterward bishop of Arles (426). Nothing of his writings has been preserved. His successor in the see of Arles, St. Hilary, wrote a biography of him full of devotion and enthusiasm.
