CAPRASIO, SANTO

CAPRASIO, Saint. - Hermit of Lérins, teacher and spiritual father of St. Honoratus, founder of the famous monastery of the same name. Late sources make him abbot of Lérins after the appointment of Honoratus to the see of Arles (426), but this does not seem to agree with the ancient sources. Died around 430. Of the sanctity of C., his contemporaries Hilary of Arles (PL 50, 1255), Eucherius of Lyon (ibid., 711) and Sidonius Apollinaris (PL 58, 721) speak. His life was written only in the 7th-8th century. Feast on June 1.
