PAULINUS OF PÉRIGUEUX (Petricordia). - Around 470, at the invitation of Archbishop Perpetuus, he wrote a Life of St. Martin in hexameters.

The first 3 books are based on Sulpicius Severus's Vita s. Martini, the 4th and 5th books depend on the two dialogues of the same author, while the 6th book versifies a collection of miracles of St. Martin gathered by Archbishop Perpetuus of Tours. For the new basilica of the saint of Tours, built by Perpetuus, P. wrote a metrical inscription. Furthermore, the "Versus Paulini de visitatione nipotuli sui" recount a new miracle of Martin. Stylistically P. is influenced by Virgil, Ovid, Catullus (v. C. Weyman, Beiträge zur Geschichte der christlich-lateinischen Poesie, Munich 1926, p. 140 ff.), Juvencus and Sedulius.
