PELINGOTTO, Giovanni Pelino Goto, called the Blessed. — Franciscan tertiary, born in Urbino to illustrious parents in 1240, died there on 19 June 1304. As a young man he was directed by his father toward commerce, in which, however, rather than seeking to increase his own fortune, he sought to increase that of others.
After a short time, with his father’s consent, he abandoned commerce, distributed all his goods to the poor, and devoted himself solely to God in solitude and prayer. Enrolled among the Franciscan tertiaries, he became a prelate of outstanding virtue among his brethren and fellow citizens, distinguished especially in penance and charity. His cult, which had long been observed, was approved by Benedict XV on 12 November 1918.
