PELINGOTTO, GIOVANNI PELINO GOTO, so called, blessed. — A Franciscan tertiary, born in Urbino to illustrious parents in 1240, he died there on 1 June 1304. As a young man, his father directed him toward commerce, in which, however, rather than seeking to increase his own fortune, he concerned himself with increasing that of others.
After a short time, with his father’s consent, he abandoned commerce, distributed all he possessed to the poor, and devoted himself exclusively to God in solitude and prayer. Enrolled among the Franciscan Tertiaries, he became a distinguished example of virtue among his brothers and fellow citizens, outstanding especially in penance and charity. His immemorial cult was approved by Benedict XV on 12 November 1918.
