PETERS, NORBERT. - Exegete, b. at Allendorf (Westphalia) on 5 Aug. 1863, d. at Paderborn on 20 Jan. 1938. A priest in 1887, following special studies in biblical science and in classical and Oriental philology, he became an esteemed professor of the Old Testament at the academic philosophical-theological institute of Paderborn (1892-1934), a shrewd scholar and prolific writer, particularly on the "biblical question." He was also a co-founder and co-editor of the collection Biblische Studien (from 1895) and of the journal Theologie und Glaube (from 1909).
