PRAEDESTINATUS. - An anonymous and untitled work, to which the first editor, J. Sirmond, gave this title.
The first book combats 90 heresies, the penultimate of which is the haeresis Praedestinatorum. The author relies on St. Augustine's book De haeresibus, adding false and fanciful reports. The second book purports to be a treatise on predestination wrongly attributed to St. Augustine, which the author refutes in the third book. The pseudo-Augustinian treatise is also a forgery, made by a Roman Pelagian, probably from the first half of the 5th century. There are linguistic and theological affinities with the Commentary on the Psalms of Arnobius the Younger. Whether he is the author of the P. is doubtful.
