RANOLFO d'HOMBLIÈRES (Ranulphus, Arnulphus de Humbloneria, Albumeria). - Theologian and bishop, b. in Normandy at the beginning of the 13th century, d. in Paris on 12 Nov. 1288.
Parish priest of St-Gervais, in 1272 he became a canon of Notre-Dame and shortly thereafter magister theologiae and regens at the University of Paris. On 27 June 1280 he succeeded Stefano Tempier in the episcopal see. During his administration the opposition of the secular masters against the regulars arose. In Nov. 1282 R. prompted a consultation of fifteen masters concerning the dispute, and in 1285–86 he intervened in the question of Egidio Romano. He bequeathed to Notre-Dame a considerable sum for the celebration of the feast of the Immaculate Conception.
He wrote: 2 Quodlibeta (manuscripts, Paris, Arsenal 379); he treated subjects De Deo, De Christo (with two utrum on the Eucharistic Body), De Angelo, De homine puro (casuistry also concerning Confession); 14 Sermones (manuscripts Paris, Bibl. naz., mss. lat. 16, 481; 16, 482; 14, 947); festal discourses, two of them delivered as bishop.
