RELIGIOSI TERZIARI CAPPUCCINI DI NOSTRA SIGNORA ADDOLORATA. – They were founded by Luigi Amigó in Masamagrell (Valencia) in Spain on 12 Apr. 1889. Papal approval was granted on 19 Sept. 1902 and definitive approval of the Constitutions on 5 July 1910.
It is a clerical Congregation with simple perpetual vows. Its proper aim is the re-education of youth, and it also carries on preventive works in favour of poor and abandoned boys, as well as other institutions for youth in general. In 1937 the Pious Union of Marian Cooperators of Our Sorrowful Lady was established to continue in the world the beneficent work of the religious in favour of young people who had left the reformatories, and to spread the re-educational mission in families.
The Congregation is established in Spain with 17 houses; in Italy (1927) with 4; in Colombia (1928) with 4; and in Argentina (1932) with 3. The establishments for re-education of various kinds number 13, with more than 2,000 pupils. The religious personnel consists of 295 professed members, 34 novices, and 30 aspirants. Three periodicals are published to spread the mission: Nuova Vita in Italy; El Sembrador in Colombia; and Surgam in Spain.
