RIEUX. - Small town and ancient diocese in the department of Haute-Garonne in France.

The diocese was created in 1337 by Pope John XXII as a suffragan of Toulouse. The ancient cathedral, St. Mary, has a 13th-century presbytery, with artistic choir stalls from 1651; the nave is from the second half of the 14th century with 17th-century additions. The portal adorned with statues was damaged first by the Protestants and then during the French Revolution; on the north side the octagonal brick bell tower rises to a height of 43 m. Of the ancient episcopal palace there remain a 15th-century tower and a portal from the end of the 17th century. The diocese was united with Toulouse in 1801.
