HISTORICAL REVIEW. - A monthly periodical, founded in 1905 by Fr. G. Bonaccorsi (v.) and afterwards directed by E. Buonaiuti (v.).

Divided into six sections: historical theology, biblical history and literature, Christian history and literature, Oriental history and literature, hagiography and liturgy, archaeology and art; furnished with ecclesiastical approval, it counted among its contributors U. Mannucci, U. Fracassini, F. Lanzoni, G. Zattoni, Fr. P. de Meester, F. Mari, and Fr. S. Scaglia.

After the encyclical Pascendi appeared (Sept. 8, 1907), the journal gave it a generic adherence (cf. the journal itself, 3 [1907], p. 719); but in vol. 6 (1910) E. Buonaiuti began open skirmishes in it (pp. 171, 235). The periodical, not conforming to the directives of the anti-modernist campaign, was condemned by decree of the Holy Office of Sept. 10, 1910, and immediately ceased publication.
