MANNUCCI, UBALDO. - Patrologist and canonist, b. at Montagano (Campobasso) on 8 Nov. 1883, d. at Rome on 20 May 1935. He studied at the Roman Seminary, obtaining degrees in theology and in utroque iure at the Apollinare. He was professor of patrology at the Augustinian College of S. Monica in Rome.
He published: Irenaei Lugdanensis adv. Haereses libri 5, in Bibliotheca sanctorum Patrum, by G. Vizzini, Rome 1907: a text that remained incomplete. Following the prohibition of Rauschen’s manual of patrology, he composed, with the assistance of his favorite disciple, the Augustinian Fr. Antonio Casamassa: Istituzioni di patrologia ad uso delle scuole teologiche (2 vols., Rome 1914–15); after the author’s death Casamassa kept the two volumes up to date, and they reached the 6th ed. (21st thousand). He translated various works from German, including L. Fonck, Il metodo del lavoro scientifico (Rome 1909), and composed many others; moreover, he compiled the patrology bulletin of the Rivista storico-critica delle scienze teologiche.
Appointed Auditor of the S. Romana Rota, he supervised the edition of several volumes of the Decisiones S. R. Rotae and for many years directed the Acta Apostolicae Sedis, for which he left unpublished the index for the first 25 years; this is preserved, though only in part, by his heirs. Antonio Piolanti
