MAGNO of SENS. — Archbishop and theologian, born in the second half of the 8th century, died at Sens in 818. Having come to Rome with Charlemagne, he was consecrated archbishop of Sens by Leo III; he received honorary assignments (missus dominicus at Orléans, Langres, and elsewhere) from the Emperor, to whom he dedicated his Notae iuris (PL 102, 983-94).
When Charlemagne submitted to all the archbishops of the Empire a question on the rites of Baptism, M. replied with a libellus de mysteriis Baptismatis (PL 102, 981-83), in which he briefly expounded the symbolic meaning of the three Sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist): some insights on the Mystical Body are noted there.
