MAGNO di FABRATERIA, saint. - He is commemorated in the Hieronymian Martyrology on 19 Aug., as a martyr of Fabriteria vetus, today Ceccano, where in antiquity there was a church dedicated to him, later destroyed by the Saracens. He is also commemorated on the same day in the Gelasian Sacramentary.
The Passio (BHL, 5167-74), highly legendary in character, relates that M. was born in Apulia to pagan parents and, as a youth, was a shepherd. One day, while listening to the Gospel, he converted and was baptized by Bishop Redento. When his father died, he sold all his possessions and distributed the proceeds to the poor. When the persecution broke out, he was arrested by the consul Severino; he managed to escape and went to Naples, where he was the guest of s. Gennaro. Intending then to go to Rome, he stopped instead at Fabriteria, where, when the persecution of Decius and then that of Valerian broke out, he was killed.
