Italian historical periodical of the Benedictines, initially quarterly, then (from 1912) bimonthly, founded in 1906 by a board of editors composed of one member from each monastic Congregation (Cassinese, Subiaco, Cistercian, Camaldolese, Vallombrosan, Olivetan, Silvestrine, Virginian, Mechitarist), under the direction of Abbot Placido Lugano.
Up to 1926, with the sole interruption of 1916–20 due to the First World War, 17 volumes (69 issues) were published. The periodical included, with special regard to Italian history, in the «Memorie» historical studies of the monastic Order in its various religious, literary, and artistic manifestations, past and present; in the «Varietà» hagiographical, literary, and biographical documents; in the «Letteratura» and «Cronaca dell'Ordine» accurate and complete news of contemporary life and events. Among the contributors, besides the editor Lugano, were Cardinals M. Rampolla del Tindaro, A. Gasquet, and I. Schuster; A. Amelli, Br. Albers, E. Caronti, P. Ciampelli, A. Ettinger, G. F. Gamurrini, etc. It has resumed publication (1952).
