RIVISTA STORICA BENEDETTINA. - Italian Benedictine historical periodical, at first quarterly and then (from 1912) bimonthly, founded in 1906 by an editorial board composed of one member from each monastic Congregation (Cassinese, Sublacense, Cistercense, Camaldolese, Vallombrosano, Olivetano, Silvestrino, Virginiano, Mechitarista), under the direction of Abbot Placido Lugano.
Up to 1926, with the sole interruption of 1916-20 due to the First World War, 17 volumes (69
issues) were published. With particular regard to the history of Italy, the periodical contained, in its « Memoirs », historical studies of the monastic Order in its various religious, literary, and artistic manifestations, past and present; in its « Miscellanies », hagiographical, literary, and biographical documents; in its « Literature » and « Chronicle of the Order », accurate and complete information on contemporary life and events. Among its contributors, besides its editor Lugano, were Cardinals M. Rampolla del Tindaro, A. Gasquet, and I. Schuster; A. Amelli, Br. Albers, E. Caronti, P. Ciampelli, A. Ettinger, G. F. Gamurrini, etc. It has now (1952) resumed publication.
