Saba, Saint, Martyr

SABA, SANTO, MARTIRE

SABA, Saint, Martyr. - He is commemorated in the Latin and Greek Martyrologies on April 24 as a Roman martyr who perished under Aurelian; he is, however, unknown to the most ancient hagiographic sources.

It is probably a duplicate of the homonymous St. Saba called the Goth (v.), whose deeds were distorted by ignorant hagiographers. There existed a fabulous Passio, now lost, from which the laterculus of the Roman Martyrology was drawn.
