SACCARELLI, GASPARÈ. — Oratorian, born in Turin in 1723, died in Rome in September 1803. Having gone to Rome, he entered the Congregation in 1749 and for a long time served as prefect of the Vallicelliana Library.
Devoting himself to historical studies, he published a course in ecclesiastical history in 26 volumes in Latin, published in Rome in 1771. At that time he collected documents relating to the period following that covered by Baronio in his Annales and conducted critical studies on controversial issues. During the Holy Year of 1773 he served as penitentiary.
