SACCARELLI, GASPARE. – Oratorian, born in Turin in 1723, died in Rome in September 1803. Having gone to Rome, he entered the Congregation in 1749 and was for a long time prefect of the Vallicelliana Library.
Devoting himself to historical studies, he published a course in ecclesiastical history in 26 volumes in the Latin language, issued in Rome in 1771. At this time he collected documents concerning the period following that treated by Baronius in his Annales and undertook critical studies of controversial questions. During the Holy Year of 1775 he was a penitentiary.
