SACRAMENTINES. — Founded in Bergamo in 1881 by Gertrude Comensoli and the priest Francesco Spinelli for the continuous adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament and for the education of orphaned and abandoned girls.
At the beginning of 1889, the Institute was struck by a financial disaster, resulting in a serious crisis and a split. After the period of turmoil, the house in Bergamo continued under the guidance of Comensoli, consolidated itself, and opened new houses in other Italian dioceses. The Institute also spread to mission lands and the Americas. At present, there are over 1,000 sisters in 115 houses.
