SACRAMENTINE

SACRAMENTINES. - Founded in Bergamo in 1881 by Gertrude Comensoli and by the priest Francesco Spinelli for the continuous adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament and for the education of orphaned and abandoned girls.

At the beginning of 1889 the Institute was overwhelmed by a financial disaster, with a consequent grave crisis and split. Once the period of turmoil had passed, the house of Bergamo continued under the guidance of Comensoli, became consolidated and opened new houses in other dioceses of Italy. The Institute also spread to mission lands and to the Americas. At present there are more than 1000 nuns in 115 houses.
