SACRAMENTINE. — Founded in Bergamo in 1881 by Gertrude Comensoli and the priest Francesco Spinelli for the perpetual adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament and for the education of orphaned and abandoned girls.
At the beginning of 1889, the Institute was overwhelmed by a financial disaster, with a consequent serious crisis and division. After the period of turmoil had passed, the house in Bergamo continued under the direction of Comensoli, became firmly established, and opened new houses in other dioceses of Italy. The Institute also spread to mission territories and to the Americas. At present there are more than 1,000 sisters in 115 houses.
