SCHEIDE, Papiri di. - The Greek papyri that the American John H. S. deposited in Princeton University consist of 21 sheets, that is 42 pages, complete except for the first four which are halved, and generally well preserved, of an ancient codex. The writing is a fine uncial of the 3rd century, probably of its first part. It contains Ex. 19:12-39:29 with small lacunae. The papyri belong to the same codex as the 16 sheets of papyrus IX of Chester Beatty (v.), containing Ex. 11:25-17:21 and Esth. 2:20-8:6, and the 13 sheets of papyrus X of Chester Beatty with a part of the Greek version of Daniel. Therefore all these papyri are designated by the same siglum Rahlfs 967.
All the pages of the S. papyri still bear the original numbering, which runs from 39 to 90 of the complete codex, and make it possible to calculate almost exactly the original size and material of the codex. They were published in 1938 in a magnificent volume with a comprehensive introduction, text, critical apparatus and photographs of all the pages of the papyri. This is the best text and the oldest manuscript of the Greek Ezekiel; it confirms the value of codex Vaticanus B. Many readings proper to the S. papyri are found again in the Lucianic codices and are rightly attributed to the base on which Lucian (v.) elaborated his recension.
