SCHULTES, REGINALD. – Dominican theologian, born at Peterzell (canton of S. Gallo, Switzerland) on 11 February 1873, died in Rome on 20 February 1928. From 1899 to 1910 he was a professor and preacher in Graz. From that date until his death, except for the period of the First World War, he taught theology at the Ateneo Angelicum in Rome, specializing in the history of dogmas, in which his views, although
not shared by all, are of particular interest.
Among his writings, the following should be mentioned: Reue und Bussabramen (Paderborn 1906); Die Urgeschichte der Menschheit nach der III. Schrift (Graz 1908); Wunder und Christentum. Konferenzen (there 1909); Die Gottheit Christi. Konferenzen (there 1910); Die unfehlbare Kirche (there 1911); the controversial Introductio in historiam dogmatum (Paris 1922), preceded by De definibilitate conclusionum theologicarum, in La ciencia tomista, 23-24 (1921), pp. 305-53, and followed by Eclaircissements sur l'évolution du dogme, in Revue des sciences phil. et théol., 14 (1925), pp. 286-302; the well-known treatise De Ecclesia catholica (Paris 1925; 2nd ed. there 1931).
