TEODOTO lo GNOSTICO. - A disciple of Valentino, belonging to the Eastern school of his master (on the two Valentinian schools V. Ippolito, Ref., VI, 35, 5-7).
Nothing is known of his person and life, but he was probably a contemporary of Tolomeo (about 160-170). His doctrine is akin to that of Marco. Clemente d'Alessandria preserved fragments of T.'s doctrine in his Excerpta ex Theodoto. It is not always possible, however, clearly to distinguish T.'s work from that of Clemente (v. VALENTINO).
