Theodulus, Presbyter in Celesiria

TEODULO, PRESBITERO IN CELESIRIA

By Erik Peterson

Italian original Cite

THEODULUS, Presbyter in Celesiria. - He wrote in the times of the emperor Zeno (474-91), according to Gennadius, De viris ill., ch. 91 (Herding), many books, of which however only one is known, namely: De consonantia Veteris et Novi Testamenti, an anti-heretical work, directed probably either against the Manichaeans or the Marcionites.

Two fragments probably in the Doctrina Patrum, pp. 315, 17 ff. ed. Diekamp and p. III (cf. Acts of the Lateran Council [649] in Mansi, X, 1121 C.). The Syrian Church knew, according to Ebediesu, by the same T. an interpretation of the prophet Isaiah in 2 vols. and a treatise on the Davidic psalms, and on the best way of reciting them. According to Ebediesu T. would have been a disciple of Theodore of Mopsuestia; the Doctrina Patrum calls him a Nestorian. All his works have, it seems at least, disappeared.
