UT QUEANT LAXIS RESONARE FIBRIS.
- Hymn of the Vespers in the Office of the feast of St. JOHN the Baptist, written by PAUL the DEACON, Benedictine monk of the 8th century.

Inspired by the Gospel of St. LUKE, the poet emphasizes the portentous signs that preceded the birth of the Precursor. The first stanza is of great historical-musical interest because the initial letters of each hemistich, which follow in the six sounds of the hexachord, were taken by GUIDO d'AREZZO to give the names to the musical notes of the new solmization system.
