VANDELBERTO di PRÜM. – Monk of Prüm and deacon, born around 813 and died after 870.
He is credited with one of the oldest known martyrologies, composed around 848 in Latin hexameters and written at the request of the learned Otricus, when V. was in Cologne. It is a compilation based on martyrological texts (above all, the M recension of Florus), sent to him by Florus of Lyon, with whom he maintained a constant correspondence. He later published an Horologium, or notes on the knowledge of time, the seasons, the days and months of the year, and the origin of their names. In 839 he also wrote a life of s. Goar, hermit and confessor, the Hexameron, a poem on the creation of the world, and several poems.
