VILLANA DEI BOTTI, BEATA

VILLANA DEI BOTTI, Blessed. - Dominican tertiary, b. in Florence in 1332, d. there on 28 February 1360.

Daughter of a wealthy patrician, she was inclined to piety from childhood; then, after her marriage (1350) to Rosso di Piero Benintendi, she gave herself over to a worldly life. Suddenly, having seen herself in the mirror as a monster, she was converted, and, having become a tertiary, she dedicated the rest of her life to charity and penance. Bernardo Rossellino made her tomb (1452-53) in S. Maria Novella. Her cult was confirmed by Leo XII in March 1824. Feast on 28 February.
