TRÉMOILLE, JOSEPH-EMMANUEL de la. — Cardinal, of the dukes of Noirmoutier, born in 1661, died in Rome, where he is buried at S. Luigi dei Francesi, on 17 January 1720.
After having been vicar of the bishop of Laon, in 1693 he went to Rome as an auditor of the Rota. Having been made a cardinal on 17 May 1706, he was immediately appointed ambassador of France to the Holy See and had to deal, among other matters, for many years with all the religious questions and with the bull Unigenitus. On 8 June 1716 he was appointed bishop of Bayeux, and on 11 May 1718 archbishop of Cambrisi, but he never reached either see.
