WOYWOD, STANISLAUS

WOYWOD, STANISLAUS. – In the world Antonio, canonist, b. on 10 August 1880 at Guttstadt in the diocese of Warmia in Germany, d. on 19 September 1941 in the United States.

He entered the Order of Friars Minor in 1899, was ordained a priest on 4 January 1906, and was enrolled in the province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus in the United States of America. He devoted himself particularly to juridical studies and was a general lector in theology and canon law. Among the offices he held in the Order were those of guardian and definitor.

He wrote very numerous scientific articles in various journals, especially American ones, the principal among them being The Homiletic and Pastoral Review and The Ecclesiastical Review. A highly esteemed writer, he is known especially for his commentary on the CIC: A practical Commentary on the Code of Canon Law, New York 1925 (5th ed., in 2 vols., ibid. 1939).
