WOYWOD, STANISLAUS. — In secular life Antonio, canonist, b. 10 Aug. 1880 at Guttstadt in the diocese of Warmia (Germany), d. 19 Sept. 1941 in the United States.

A Franciscan friar from 1899 and ordained priest on 4 Jan. 1906, he belonged to the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus in the United States of America. He devoted himself especially to legal studies and served as general lecturer in theology and canon law. Among the offices he held in the Order were those of guardian and definitor.

He wrote numerous scholarly articles for various journals, chiefly American, the principal ones being The Homiletic and Pastoral Review and The Ecclesiastical Review. A highly esteemed writer, he is especially known for his commentary on the Code of Canon Law: A Practical Commentary on the Code of Canon Law, New York 1925 (5th ed. in 2 vols., ibid. 1939).
