ZEITSCHRIFT DES DEUTSCHEN PALÄSTINAVEREINS

ZEITSCHRIFT DES DEUTSCHEN PALÄSTINAVEREINS. — Official scientific organ of the «Deutscher Verein zur Erforschung Palästinas», founded in 1877 in Leipzig and re-established in the final months of 1952 in Bonn.

It covers geographical, geological, topographical, and archaeological research on Palestine, and offers various surveys of the scientific literature on Palestine. Its contributors include Albrecht Alt, Martin Noth, Kurt Galling, and others. Until 1910 it was published by the well-known publisher of travel guides K. Baedeker, later by J. C. Hinrichs, and then (1939) by Otto Harrassowitz. Its directors were H. Guthe (d. 1941), I. Benzinger, C. Steuernagel (from 1903 to 1928), and, from 1929, Martin Noth. It remained suspended from 1945 onward; in 1949–51 the three issues of vol. 68 appeared under the title Beiträge zur biblischen Landes- und Altertumshunde. The journal should not be confused with the Palästinajahrbuch des deutschen evangelischen archäologischen Instituts directed by G. Dalman, which appeared from 1905 to 1941, and still less with the Palästina-Hefte des deutschen Vereins vom hl. Land, a scientific yearbook (from 1931) of a Catholic association based in Cologne.
