Solomon offereth sacrifices at Gabaon. His choice of wisdom which God giveth him.

1And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the Lord his God was with him, and magnified him to a high degree.Salomone adunque figliuolo di David ebbe fermo il possesso del suo reame, e il Signore Dio suo era con lui, e lo esaltò fino al cielo.SALOMON therfore the sonne of Dauid was strengthened in his kingdom, and our Lord was with him, and magnified him on high. 2And Solomon gave orders to all Israel, to the captains of thousands, and of hundreds, and to the rulers, and to the judges of all Israel, and the heads of the families:E Salomone convocò tutto Israele, i tribuni, e i centurioni, e i capitani, e i giudici di tutto Israele, e i capi delle famiglie; And Salomon commanded al Israel, the tribunes, and the centurious, and the dukes, and iudges of al Israel, and the princes of the families:Præcepitque Salomon universo Israëli, tribunis, et centurionibus, et ducibus, et judicibus omnis Israël, et principibus familiarum: 3And he went with all the multitude to the high place of Gabaon, where was the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord, which Moses the servant of God made, in the wilderness.E con tutta questa moltitudine andò al luogo eccelso di Gabaon, dove era il tabernacolo del testamento del Signore fabbricato da Mosè servo di Dio nel deserto.and he went with al the multitude into the Excelse of Gabaon, where was the tabernacle of the couenant of our Lord, which Moyses the seruant of God made, in the wildernesse.et abiit cum universa multitudine in excelsum Gabaon, ubi erat tabernaculum fœderis Dei, quod fecit Moyses famulus Dei in solitudine. 4For David had brought the ark of God from Cariathiarim to the place, which he had prepared for it, and where he had pitched a tabernacle for it, that is, in Jerusalem.(Or David avea condotta l'arca di Dio da Cariathiarim al luogo, ch'ei le avea preparato, dove le avea piantato un padiglione, viene a dire, a Gerusalemme). For Dauid had brought the Arke of God from Cariathiarim into the place, which he had prepared for it, and where he had pitcht a tabernacle for it, that is, in Ierusalem. 5And the altar of brass, which Beseleel the son of Uri the son of Hur had made, was there before the tabernacle of the Lord: and Solomon and all the assembly sought it:E parimente l'altare di bronzo fatto da Beseleel figliuolo di Uri, figliuolo di Hur, era colà dinanzi al tabernacolo del Signore: e Salomone, e tutta l'adunanza si presentò dinanzi ad esso. The altar also of brasse, which Beseleel the sonne of Vri the sonne of Hur had made was there before the tabernacle of our Lord: which also Salomon sought, and al the assemblie.

6And Solomon went up thither to the brazen altar, before the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up on it a thousand victims.E Salomone salì all'altare di bronzo dinanzi al tabernacolo dell'alleanza del Signore, e vi offerse mille ostie. And Salomon went vp to the altar of brasse, before the tabernacle of the couenant of our Lord, and offered on it a thousand hostesAscenditque Salomon ad altare æneum, coram tabernaculo fœderis Domini, et obtulit in eo mille hostias. 7And behold that night God appeared to him, saying: Ask what thou wilt that I should give thee. And behold in that verie night God appeared to him, saying: Aske what thou wilt that I may geue it thee. 8And Solomon said to God: Thou hast shewn great kindness to my father David: and hast made me king in his stead.E Salomone disse a Dio: Tu facesti delle grandi misericordie a David mio padre: e me hai stabilito re in suo luogo. And Salomon sayd to God: Thou hast done great mercie with my father Dauid: and hast made me king for him.Dixitque Salomon Deo: Tu fecisti cum David patre meo misericordiam magnam, et constituisti me regem pro eo. 9Now therefore, O Lord God, let thy word be fulfilled, which thou hast promised to David my father: for thou hast made me king over thy great people, which is as innumerable as the dust of the earth.Ora adunque. Now therfore Lord God be thy word fulfilled, which thou hast promised to Dauid my father: for thou hast made me king ouer thy people great in number, which is so innumerable as the dust of the earth.Nunc ergo Domine Deus, impleatur sermo tuus quem pollicitus es David patri meo: tu enim me fecisti regem super populum tuum multum, qui tam innumerabilis est quam pulvis terræ. 10Give me wisdom and knowledge that I may come in and go out before thy people: for who can worthily judge this thy people, which is so great? Geue me wisdom and intelligence, that I may come in & goe out before thy people: for who can worthely iudge this thy people, which is so great?

11And God said to Solomon: Because this choice hath pleased thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, and wealth, and glory, nor the lives of them that hate thee, nor many days of life: but hast asked wisdom and knowledge, to be able to judge my people, over which I have made thee king,E Dio disse a Salomone: Perchè in cuor tuo hai preferite queste cose, e non hai domandate ricchezze, né beni, né gloria, né la morte di que', che ti odiano, e neppur lunga vita; ma hai domandata la sapienza, e la scienza, affin di render giustizia al mio popolo, di cui io ti ho fatto re;And God sayd to Salomon: Because this rather hath pleased thy hart, and thou hast not asked riches, and substance, and glorie, nor their liues that hate thee, no nor manie dayes of life: but hast desired wisdom and knowledge, that thou mayst be able to iudge my people, ouer which I haue made thee king.Dixit autem Deus ad Salomonem: Quia hoc magis placuit cordi tuo, et non postulasti divitias, et substantiam, et gloriam, neque animas eorum qui te oderant, sed nec dies vitæ plurimos: petisti autem sapientiam et scientiam, ut judicare possis populum meum super quem constitui te regem: 12Wisdom and knowledge are granted to thee: and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and glory, so that none of the kings before thee, nor after thee, shall be like thee.La sapienza, e la scienza son concedute a te: e le ricchezze, e i beni, e la gloria darò a te in tal guisa, che nissuno né prima, né dopo sarà mai simile a te.Wisdom and knowledge are geuen thee: and riches, and substance and glorie I wil geue thee, soe that none among the kinges neither before thee, nor after thee shal be like thee.sapientia et scientia data sunt tibi: divitias autem et substantiam et gloriam dabo tibi, ita ut nullus in regibus nec ante te nec post te fuerit similis tui. 13Then Solomon came from the high place of Gabaon to Jerusalem before the tabernacle of the covenant, and reigned over Israel. Salomon therfore came from the Excelse of Gabaon into Ierusalem before the tabernacle of couenant, & reigned ouer Israel.Venit ergo Salomon ab excelso Gabaon in Jerusalem coram tabernaculo fœderis, et regnavit super Israël. 14And he gathered to himself chariots and horsemen, and he had a thousand four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen: and he placed them in the cities of the chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem.E raunò cocchi, e cavalieri, ed ebbe fino a mille quattrocento cocchi, e dodici mila soldati a cavallo: e feceli stanziare nelle città de' cocchi, e in Gerusalemme presso al re.And he gathered to him chariotes and horsemen, and there amounted to him a thousand foure hundred chariotes, and twelue thousand horsemen: and he caused them to be in the cities of the chariotes, and with the king in Ierusalem.

15And the king made silver and gold to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar trees as sycamores, which grow in the plains in great multitude.E il re fece, che l'argento, e l'oro in Gerusalemme era come le pietre, e i cedri come i fichi fatui, che nascono in gran numero ne' piani. And the king gaue siluer and gold in Ierusalem as stones, & cedartrees as sycomores, which grow in the champayne in great multitude.Præbuitque rex argentum et aurum in Jerusalem quasi lapides, et cedros quasi sycomoros quæ nascuntur in campestribus multitudine magna. 16And there were horses brought him from Egypt, and from Coa by the king’s merchants, who went, and bought at a price,Ed erano menati a lui i cavalli dall'Egitto, e da Coa dai mercatanti del re, i quali andavano a comprargli a caro prezzo. And there were horses brought him from Aegypt, and from Coa by the kinges merchantes, which went, and brought by a price,Adducebantur autem ei equi de Ægypto et de Coa a negotiatoribus regis, qui ibant et emebant pretio, 17A chariot of four horses for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: in like manner market was made in all the kingdoms of the Hethites, and of the kings of Syria.Quattro cavalli da cocchio secento sicli d'argento, e un cavallo cento cinquanta: e se ne faceva ancor grande incetta da tutti i regni degli Hethei, e dai re della Siria.a chariote of foure horses for six hundred peces of siluer, and an horse for an hundred fiftie: in like maner of al the kingdomes of Hetheites, and of the kinges of Syria market was made.quadrigam equorum sexcentis argenteis, et equum centum quinquaginta: similiter de universis regnis Hethæorum, et a regibus Syriæ emptio celebrabatur.
