AB IPSIS

AB IPSIS. — The opening words of the apostolic letter that Pius XI addressed on 15 June 1926 to the vicars and apostolic prefects of China regarding the duty to show, always both in word and deed, the universality and supernatural character of the Church, whose missionaries have and must have no earthly aim, and, though foreigners, are in no way emissaries of their respective countries. Positively, the vicars and apostolic prefects, together with the missionaries, are urged to promote, in keeping with their vocation and mission, the moral and constructive work of the new China. Only thus can the prejudices of many Chinese, especially among the young, that missionary work is a long arm of their respective countries and governments, be dispelled.
