CONSTANTINE ACROPOLITA. - Greek writer, who lived at the end of the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th. Like his father George, he was for many years Grand Logothete (chancellor), at least from 1296 to 1321, and composed numerous Lives of Saints, widely read among the Byzantines, which earned him the title of "the new Metaphrastes." He also took part, under Andronicus II, in the controversy against the Council of Lyons with two short works on the procession of the Holy Spirit, about which Leo Allatius provides some information in his work De perpetua consensione (Cologne 1648).
