COZZA-LUZI, GIUSEPPE. - Italian Basilian monk of great learning, b. at Bolsena on 4 Dec. 1837. He became a Basilian in the abbey of Grottaferrata, where he became a hieromonk (1860) and later secretary of Abbot Contieri (1866), whom he succeeded (1879). In 1882 he was called to the Vatican as vice-librarian. He died at Bolsena on 1 June 1905.
C.-L. left a strong imprint of his personality on the liturgical reform of the abbey of Grottaferrata, but even more so in the cultural field, where he stood out as a most prolific writer in paleography, history, archaeology, theology and liturgy. With the collaboration of his teacher Toscani he published in 1862 his first essay De Immaculata Deiparae Conceptione, hymnologia Graecorum (Rome 1862). According to A. Rocchi (A. Mai, Nova Patrum Biblioth., X, Rome 1905, pp. xxv-xxviii) C.-L.'s publications numbered 130 in all, to which numerous journal articles must be added.
