AGANOOR POMPILJ, Vittoria. — Writer born in Padua on 26 May 1855, died in Rome on 7 May 1910, of Armenian descent, distinguished in Venice for countless charitable works, including the founding of the Mechitarist college on the island of San Lazzaro. She was a pupil of Zanella and of the Nuncio, praised by Carducci. She decided late to publish her verses, which express a profound sorrow in need of peace. Worthy of remembrance are *Leggenda eterna* (divided into three parts: *Leggenda eterna*; *Intermezzo*; *Risveglio*) and *Nuove Liriche*.
