AGANOOR POMPILJ, VITTORIA. — Writer, born in Padua on 26 May 1855, died in Rome on 7 May 1910, of Armenian family, distinguished in Venice for innumerable charitable works, among them the foundation of the Mechitarist college on the island of S. Lazzaro. She was a pupil of Zanella and Nencioni, and praised by Carducci. Only late in life did she decide to publish her verses, which express a profound sorrow in need of peace. Worthy of remembrance are the Leggenda eterna (divided into three parts: Leggenda eterna; Intermezzo; Risveglio) and the Nuove Liriche.
