AGUILERA, EMMANUELE. - Sicilian Jesuit, b. at Licata on 23 Dec. 1677, d. at Palermo on 27 Oct. 1740. A professor in Rome of philosophy and then, for fourteen years, of theology, he was recalled to Sicily to write the history of that province, and he published two volumes of it: Provinciae Siculae S. I. ortus et res gestae ab anno 1546 ad annum 1611, and: ab anno 1612 ad annum 1672 (Palermo 1737-40). A work in which the biographical part abounds, but far removed from any panegyrical tone.

Several other publications by him are also extant, almost all anonymous or pseudonymous; worth citing are: Lettere del conte Aurelio Rosalbi al sig. Carminio Donzelli, letterato di Salerno (Florence and Palermo 1728), in defense of the teaching method of the Jesuit colleges, and Examen dissertationis theologicae negantis baptismum infantis in utero, editae a D. Martino Orelli Barnabita (Florence 1710).
