AIGREFEUILLE, Guillaume (the Elder). - Cardinal, b. at Lafond, near Saint-Exupéry, ca. 1317, d. at Viterbo in 1369. Having entered the Benedictine Order, he was prior of St. Peter's in Abbeville. Clement VI, who had already appointed him apostolic protonotary, created him archbishop of Saragossa in 1347, and then cardinal in 1350. He contributed to the election of Urban V, from whom he received the bishopric of Sabina in 1367. He was camerlengo of the sacred college, and successfully brought to completion important legations and various delicate assignments.
