AMAT, FELIX TORRES: V. TORRES Y AMAT, FÉLIX. AMAT di SAN FILIPPO, PIETRO. - Writer, b. 1 Oct. 1822 in Sardinia, d. in Rome 15 Feb. 1895. He was first employed at the State Archives of Cagliari, then at the Ministry of Finance in Rome.
A writer on the history of geography, he published a life of C. Colombo, the life and travels of Ludovico da Varthema, the relations between Italy and India, etc., all works noteworthy from the missionary point of view. In addition: Studi bibliografici e biografici sulla storia della Geografia in Italia, published by the R. Società Geografica Italiana, Rome 1875, in a 2nd ed. in 1882; the first volume of this work, entitled Biografie dei viaggiatori italiani della bibliografia delle loro opere, enlarged two years later by an Appendix of 85 pages, contains abundant material on the travels and explorations of missionaries.
