ANDRÉ, JUAN. – A Muslim converted to Christianity in 1487. Ordained a priest, he devoted himself to preaching the Gospel to the Moors of Spain. He taught commercial law, perhaps in Saragossa. He wrote a Confusion de la secta Mahometana (Valencia 1517; Italian translation by D. Gaztelu, Venice 1540) and a treatise on the application of arithmetic to commerce (Valencia 1515). He is also credited with a translation of the Corano into the Aragonese dialect and a treatise on rhetoric.
