JUAN ANDRE. - A Muslim converted to Christianity in 1487. Ordained a priest, he devoted himself to preaching the Gospel to the Moors of Spain. He may have taught commercial law perhaps in Saragossa. He wrote a *Confusion de la secta Mahometana* (Valencia 1517; Italian translation by D. Gaztelu, Venice 1540) and a treatise on the application of arithmetic to commerce (Valencia 1515). He is also credited with a translation of the Qur'an into Aragonese dialect and a treatise on rhetoric.
