LOUIS ANDRE. - French Jesuit, b. at Saint-Rémy (Bouches-du-Rhône) in 1631; entered the novitiate at Lyons in 1650, and from 1669 was a missionary in Canada, mainly among the Algonquins; d. at Quebec on 19 Sept. 1715.
Several of his reports survive, containing interesting information and observations, e.g. on tides. They were printed by Fr. F. Martin in *Relations inédites de la Nouvelle-France*, I, Paris 1861, pp. 103-24, 223-33; II, ibid. 1861, pp. 118-122, and reprinted by R. G. Thwaites in *Jesuit Relations*, LVII, Cleveland 1899, pp. 267-305, 318-19; LVIII, ibid. 1899, pp. 273-81; LX, ibid. 1900, pp. 201-205. Fr. A. also left in manuscript a dictionary of the Algonquin language, a catechism, homilies and other works in the same tongue.
