ANDRIES, Josse. - A prolific ascetical preacher and writer, born at Courtrai (Belgium) in 1588, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1606 and died at Brussels on 21 December 1658.
He is known as a promoter of devotions to the perpetual Passion of Christ in His life and in the Eucharist (*Perpetua Crux seu Passio Christi*, Brussels 1648, and various editions), to the sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary (*Perpetua gladius Reginae Martyrum*, Antwerp 1649, and other editions), and to the souls in purgatory (*Supplex libellus pro animabus Purgatorii*, Antwerp 1624).
