ANDRIES, JOSSE. – A prolific preacher and ascetical writer, born in Courtrai (Belgium) in 1588, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1606 and died in Brussels on 21 December 1658.
He is known as a propagator of devotion to the Passion of Christ, perpetuated in his life and in the Eucharist (Perpetua Crux seu Passio Christi, Brussels 1648, and various reprints), to the sorrows of the Virgin Mary (Perpetuus gladius Reginae Martyrum, Antwerp 1649, and other editions), and to the souls in purgatory (Supplex libellus pro animabus Purgatorii, Antwerp 1624).
