ANDRIES, JOSSE. - A prolific preacher and ascetical writer, b. at Courtrai (Belgium) in 1588, a Jesuit in 1606, d. at Brussels on 21 Dec. 1658.

He is known as a propagator of devotions to the passion of Christ perpetuated in his life and in the Eucharist (Perpetua Crux seu Passio Christi, Brussels 1648, and various reprints), to the sorrows of the Virgin Mary (Perpetuus gladius Reginae Martyrum, Antwerp 1649, and other editions), and to the souls in purgatory (Supplex libellus pro animabus Purgatorii, Antwerp 1624).
