ANGEL of Pietro d'Assisi and FRANCESCO. — There is no biographical information about these two sculptors, who were trained within the Sienese school, as is evident from the only work of certain attribution, the Tomb of St Margaret at Cortona, which is considered one of the masterpieces of Sienese Gothic sculpture. The attribution of the tomb of Bishop Ranieri Ubertoni in S. Francesco at Cortona—of much lesser value than the former—and of three statues on the portal of the Palazzo Pubblico in Perugia remains doubtful.
