Angelo of Assisi and Saint Francis

ANGELO di PIETRO D'ASSISI and FRANCESCO. — Biographical information is lacking concerning these two sculptors trained in the sphere of the Sienese school, as is shown by the only work securely attributable to them, the Tomb of S. Margherita at Cortona, regarded as one of the masterpieces of Sienese Gothic sculpture. Doubtful are the attributions of the tomb of Bishop Ranieri Ubertoni in S. Francesco at Cortona, of much lower quality than the former, and of three statues on the portal of the public palace at Perugia.
