ANGELO DI SAN GIUSEPPE

ANGELUS of Saint Joseph. – Discalced Carmelite, in secular life Giuseppe Labrosse, missionary and Orientalist; b. in 1636 at Toulouse, he entered the Carmel in 1654 and was in Persia from 1664. Returning to Europe (1678), he was sent (1679) as Visitor General to the Dutch mission, whence he passed into England (1684); he was prior and then provincial of Perpignan, where he died on 29 Dec. 1697, after publishing: *Pharmacopaea Persica* (Paris 1681); *Gazophylacium linguae Persarum* (Amsterdam 1684).
