**ANNA of Saint Bartholomew, Blessed.** – Discalced Carmelite, in the world Anna García, born on 1 October 1549 in Almendral (near Ávila), died in Antwerp on 7 June 1626. She entered on 2 November 1570 as the first lay sister in the first reformed monastery of Ávila, and St Teresa, appreciating her natural and supernatural gifts, took her as her inseparable companion on her travels and wished to die in her arms. A. was among the first Discalced Carmelites who went to France (1604), where she founded two monasteries, at Pontoise (1605) with Anna of Jesus and at Tours (1608). She then went to Belgium, where she founded the monastery of Antwerp (6 November 1612) and, through her prayers, saved the city from the danger of falling into the hands of the Huguenots (1622, 1624); for which deed she was acclaimed by the people as the “Liberator of Antwerp.” At her death, countless graces and miracles followed; she was beatified by Benedict XV on 6 May 1917; her feast is celebrated on 7 June.

**ANNA of Saint Augustine, Venerable.** – Discalced Carmelite, a disciple of St Teresa, born in Dueñas (Palencia) in 1555, died in Villanueva on 11 December 1624. She took the Carmelite habit in Málaga in 1575. She accompanied St Teresa in the foundation of the monastery of Villanueva de la Jara, of which she was several times prioress. In 1600 she founded a monastery in Valera de Abajo (Cuenca). She was endowed with an abundance of supernatural charisms. Pius VI declared her virtues heroic in 1776. She wrote her autobiography by obedience, an important document of mystical life.
