ANSELMO V della PUSTERLA. — Archbishop of Milan from 1126, died in Rome on 14 August 1136. He remained in continual conflict with the papacy. Supported by his people, he sided with Corrado di Svevia and crowned him in Milan in 1128. He then aligned himself with the antipope Anacleto II, by whom he appears to have been made a cardinal. Innocenzo II separated Genoa from the province of Milan and excommunicated him at the Council of Piacenza. A., deposed by the clergy and the people, was captured while fleeing (1135) and taken to Rome, where he died shortly afterward.
