ANSELMO V DELLA PUSTERLA

Also known as: Latin: Anselmus de Pusterla

ANSELM V OF PUSTERLA. - Archbishop of Milan from 1126, d. in Rome on 14 Aug. 1136. He was in constant conflict with the papacy. Supported by his people, he took the side of Conrad of Swabia and crowned him in Milan in 1128. He then sided with the antipope Anacletus II, by whom he appears to have been created cardinal. Innocent II separated Genoa from the province of Milan, and at the Council of Piacenza excommunicated him. A., deposed by the clergy and the people, was captured while fleeing (1135) and taken to Rome, where he died shortly afterward.
