Pietro Antonacci. - Jesuit writer, born in Tolentino on 10 July 1801 and died in Rome on 31 October 1874. Received into the Society as a lay brother in 1828, after studying medicine, he served for many years as a nurse and pharmacist at the Collegio Romano. His extensive scientific knowledge led to his membership in various academies.
He rendered distinguished service to the missions through several publications intended for missionaries: *Manuale pratico di medicina, chirurgia e farmacia per commodo delle missioni straniere* (Rome 1845; 5th ed., 4 vols., 1866), supplemented by a *Catechismo medico... per commodo specialmente delle missioni estere* (Rome 1854); and *Repertorio generale delle più varie e utili operazioni fisico-chimiche ed industriali per commodo di tutti ma specialmente delle missioni straniere* (2 vols., Rome 1858). At the request of Pius IX, he compiled and published a *Codice farmaceutico romano teorico-pratico* (Rome 1868) with an accompanying *Formulario* (ibid. 1869).
