ARAGÓN, PEDRO DE

ARAGÓN, PEDRO de. – Augustinian religious, born in Salamanca, died between 30 September and 9 October 1592. He made his profession in 1561 and completed his early studies in his native city. He obtained his academic degrees at the University of Huesca and began teaching there; he subsequently continued as a professor of theology at the University of Salamanca. In 1575 he took part in the general chapter held in Rome and was appointed to revise the constitutions of the Order. He wrote an extensive and classic commentary on the 2a-2ae of St. Thomas, comprising two folio volumes: 1) De fide, spe et caritate (Salamanca 1584); 2) De iustitia et iure (Salamanca 1590). It is a representative work of the Augustinian school of Salamanca, since the author made use of the manuscripts of his teachers Guevara, León, and Uzeda.
