ARAGÓN, MARTIN DE

ARAGÓN, Martín de. - Franciscan missionary in the Holy Land. Toward the end of the 14th century he was living in the convent of Famagusta, on the island of Cyprus. He was private secretary, and probably also confessor, to Queen Eleanor, daughter of the infante Peter of Aragon. In 1374 he accompanied St. Bridget on her pilgrimage to the Holy Land. After a brief return to Cyprus, he went to the Holy Land and was guardian of the sanctuary of Bethlehem. He then came to Europe to set before the Pope and the Christian monarchs the needs of the holy places.
