ARAGON, MARTIN de. - Franciscan missionary in the Holy Land. Toward the end of the 14th century he was living in the convent of Famagusta on the island of Cyprus. He was private secretary, and probably also confessor, to Queen Leonora, daughter of the Infante Peter of Aragon. In 1374 he accompanied St. Bridget on her pilgrimage to the Holy Land. After a brief return to Cyprus, he went to the Holy Land and became guardian of the sanctuary of Bethlehem. He then came to Europe to present the concessions of the holy places to the Pope and to Christian monarchs.
