ARAGÓN, MARTIN de. – Franciscan missionary in the Holy Land. Toward the end of the 14th century he lived in the convent of Famagosta, on the island of Cyprus. He was the private secretary, and probably also the confessor, of Queen Leonora, daughter of the infante Pietro d'Aragona. In 1374 he accompanied St. Brigida on her pilgrimage to the Holy Land. After a brief return to Cyprus, he went to the Holy Land and became guardian of the sanctuary of Bethlehem. He then came to Europe to present the needs of the holy places to the Pope and to the Christian monarchs.
