AMBROGIO da CORI (dei MASSARI, CORANUS, CORIOLANUS). - Augustinian preacher, humanist, and theologian, d. at Rome in 1485. A student at Florence in 1452, bachelor in 1458, master in 1461, regent at Perugia in 1463 and at Naples in 1465, he was superior of the Roman province (1466–70), procurator of the Order (1470–76), and prior general (1476–85). Esteemed by Pio II, Paolo II, and Sisto IV, he was confined in Castel S. Angelo, by order of Innocenzo VIII, in March 1485; transferred a few days later to S. Agostino, he died in May of the same year. He wrote: Commentarii super regulam d. Augustini; Defensorium ordinis; Chronica Ordinis fratrum heremitarum (Rome 1841); Orationes, some printed, others unpublished (Paris, bibl. Nation. ms. 5621); De animae dignitatibus, etc.
